Details of the Badgers Golf Day at Darenth in 2004 won by Peter Gallagher

The 2004 Autumn meet at Darenth Valley was attended by 21 Badgers, including Sharpie who had never left these shores due to the threat of Hurricane Ivan and the warrants issued over his unpaid bill at Daveys.  Darenth was a warm, wet day and some excellent golf was played on a course that was in superb condition.  Team prize went to Gentys team of himself, Dennis Redgrave, Steve Sadgrove and Mike Stone. Well done Badgers!

Winning Team (L-R); Richard Gent, Dennis Redgrave, Steve Sadgrove, Mike Stone

Longest Drive was won by Spencer Powell on the stupidest hole on the course to have been chosen for the purpose.  Trust us to have asked the YTS lad in the proshop for advice!  Plenty of long drives on this hole but as it was a dogleg over trees, extra special congratulations to Spencer for having the balls to go for it and get it on the fairway (or well done for pulling off that massive hook!).  Nearest the Pin was won by Alec Vallintine, but only after Eugenio Caruso had wound him up by stepping forward to claim the prize.  Oh how he laughed!

Eugenio Caruso, funny guy and all-round great boss accepts Nearest the Pin as a wind-up before giving it back.  What a swell guy!

Nearest the Pin – Alec Vallintine

Longest Drive – Spencer Powell

Following the instigation of a new handicap adjustment system, the scores at Darenth were some of the closest yet (and lets face it Sharpie was nowhere to be seen on the scoreboard) so with further adjustment we should see more new faces on the winners rostrum over the next year.  Taking the spoils at Darenth were Spencer Powell in third place with 35 points, Alec Vallintine in second place with 36 points and, on his first appearance, Peter Gallagher on countback with 36 points also. Well played Badgers!

Third Place – Spencer Powell

Second Place – Alec Vallintine

First Place – Peter Gallagher

The next Badgers Day for your diaries is The Santas Special to be held at Birchwood Golf Club in Swanley, Kent on the 4th December.  Tee-off will be mid-morning and the golf will be followed by a turkey roast dinner.  Get your money to Mr Gent and we’ll see you there!  Looking ahead to the New Year, 2005 Membership forms will be issued before Birchwood giving those attending a chance to pay next years subscription.  The rest of you can send your forms and cheques in by post once you receive them.

The subscription is important as it provides a fund for us to pay deposits etc when we book the courses so please ensure you get it back to us before the end of the year.  And that includes this years as well, Comerford, you cheap bastard!  The changed approach of the Committee not chasing people for money/attendance has seen a slight drop in numbers but, we feel, a more committed group of golfers so don’t be one that falls by the wayside.

Scores & Handicaps;

Listed below are the scores, placings and handicaps for Darenth Valley.  Note that since Darenth the Handicap Adjustment has relied on the formula detailed on the downloadable handicap summary sheet; prior to this it depended on how many Guinesses’ you’d got down Sharpie so this should be a lot easier to adminster and easier on your wallets.  If you spot any mistakes, tough, it’s too late and we’re not interested.
