Details of the Badgers Golf Day at South Essex in 2005 won by Mike Stone |
2005 started our winters outing at South Essex and with the Membership of the society at a steady thirty-five, however we’re always open to new applicants who’ve got the time, money and preferably a younger sister (cup size optional, employment as a barmaid not essential but welcome!). South Essex was attended by 23 Badgers on a bitterly cold winters day. Following heavy snowfall the day before all credit to the course for staying open and to the Badgers for turning up. Says a lot about your wives…..as at Birchwood it was far too cold to stand around for a team shot so you’ll have to use your imagination, something you lot should have plenty of practice in.…..we’ve seen the state of you palms! Thankfully, Dave Jarvis decided to play like a mere mortal which allowed some other people to win for a change! Cheers Dave! Team Prize was won by Alec Vallintine, Mike Stone and Peter Gallagher. Longest Drive was won by Mark Smith, a return to form for the Wild Thing who won this award on the first Badgers Golf Day back in 2003 at Farleigh Court. Nearest the Pin was won by Phil Priest. Congratulations to all. Winning Team (L-R); Peter Gallagher, Alec Vallintine, Mike Stone
Mark Smith – Longest Drive and Most Chins
Phil Priest – Nearest the Pin Following the mammoth scores achieved at Birchwood a lot of comments were raised about the handicap system so a review was held and adjustments made. The subsequent handicap adjustments (only slightly less brutal than Pol Pots domestic policies) ensured a far more level playing field with the competition open to all. One of the more vocal commentators on the handicaps was Simon Tuson who proceeded to come in third on the day with 31 points. Like many things with Simon, a bit premature……but well earned! And you all thought that moaning, high pitched whine was the icy wind blowing across the course…..! Nice to see a man wriggle like a cat in a black bag canal bound when he realised he’d won a prize! Peter Gallagher used a bit of local knowledge to earn a second place with 34 points, but overall winner was Mike Stone with an extremely well earned 38 points, even after volunteering four shots off his handicap. What a top Badger! Obviously not a contractor as he’s one of the only honest men amongst us! Peter Gallagher – 3rd Place
Simon Tuson – 2nd Place
Mike Stone – 1st Place The only dark cloud over the whole proceedings was the complete failure of Mike Healy, Trophy Secretary and Northern Soul Specialist to obtain the trophy’s for the day. On top of this he then went off on holiday the week before the golf day leaving the committee well and truly in the (Badger) poop. This was despite having had months to get them…..so this ones for you Micky Blue! The South Essex Winners Rostrum with Useless Idiot. And Mike Healy.
