Details of the Badgers Golf Day at Birchwood Park in 2005 won by Steve Brewer |
Following the Societies first forays into night golf at Birchwood last year, we pulled the date of the Christmas fixture back by a week and Cuttsy managed to secure far more sensible tee-off times so everyone was able to finish in daylight. First thanks of the day goes to Tim Holt and Cable Com, IT and cabling specialists, who generously sponsored the prizes for the day. For details of what Cable Com can do for you, go to www.cablecom-ltd.com - 'communication delivered through excellence'. If there are any other Badgers out there who want to get some free advertising and sponsor a day, please contact the Committee and we’ll be glad to take your money. On the day 16 Badgers took to the course which is the lowest turn-out since the inception day back in 2003 at Farleigh Court. The low turn-out was brought on by the forecasted bad weather so shame on all of you lily livered fair weather golfers who bailed out lastminute.com. The loss was theirs as we had a great day out and the weather (like Sharpies golf game) never materialised. Scores were not so high as last year, demonstrating that the handicap system is definitely bringing people down to size and giving everyone a good crack at getting on the winners rostrum. Apart from Sharpie. How the mighty have fallen! Scoring a career low of 25 the Sharpsters golf has gone severely downhill since he started for Multiplex at Wembley and has had to actually work for a living. Still, at least Steve’ll have the stadium ready for the cup final. In 2009. Also falling from grace were Simon Tuson, falling to third from last following his second place at Lullingstone. As a good friend of Sharpies, he probably just wanted to keep him company…Winning team, referred to on the day as 'The Blimps' for obvious reasons was Dave Bullock, Steve Brewer, Steve Sharp and Frank Kingham. The day was won by Steve Brewer, first time ever on the podium, with a magnificent 41 points. Harry Cutts achieved his second second place (sounds like his stutter if you s-s-s-say it f-f-f-fast enough) with a respectable 39 points, only beating on countback Richard ‘The Badger’ Gent who took third place at his first time ever on the winners rostrum. Longest drive was narrowly won by Mike Stone with a cracking drive into the wind on the 10th, and Nearest the Pin was won by Alec Vallintine. Other Badgering of note was Dave Bullock with a spectacular return to form and a magnificent 38 points which on any other day would have seen him in the winners spot. Congratulations to you all and to everybody who had the balls to turn up.
