Details of the Badgers Golf Day at Woldingham in 2006 won by John Deely |
The 2006 Autumn meet at Woldingham in September was held on a beautiful late summers day and, coupled with the superb condition of the course and general ambience of the club, made for one of, if not the, best Badgers day to date. Sponsors for the day were Ruddy Joinery - www.ruddy.co.uk - and our thanks go to them for their generosity. 23 Badgers were in attendance to enjoy the facilities; it should have been 24 but Mark Smith cried off lastminute.com saying he was feeling unwell with stomach problems......this of course being nothing to do with him having spent the whole of the previous week on a bender with Mike Stone to celebrate Stoney leaving Canary Wharf for pastures new........... Smithy crying off over 'stomach pains'. Supposedly. The wimp There was strong suspicion from The Committee that what he was suffering from was a dose of Lizitis, more commonly referred to as 'The Thumb from Above' or 'er indoors'. Our loss was Liz's gain (poor cow). For those who did attend, a very good standard of golf was achieved, with perhaps the exception of Phil 'Trick Shot' Tweddle on the first. Another victim of Mike Stones extended leaving do, Phil hit a text book perfect shank on the first, sending his ball a magnificent 20 yards diagonally and an even more magnificent 3 yards forward of the yellow tees. Declining the request to get ones todger out before he tried again to get past the ladies tees our 'Phyliss' then proceeded to put his next in the tree. Twedds 2nd Shot on the 1st. Yes, that really is the mens tee-box to his immediate left and before the ladies. And no his todger is not in evidence The golf iteself was very enjoyable as this really is a superb course. One of the most pleasing proximity of the bar to the 10th tee, allowing at least one of our teams to get some refreshments in halfway round. Team 6 Get a 'Cheeky Rasper' in on the 10th Another high scoring day, the team prize was won by Pat Judd, Richard Gent, Frank Kingham and Peter Jupp. The Winning Team Twedds shank on the first was all a ruse, as the bugger went on to get a very close nearest the pin. Richard Maggs was on the rostrum once again for Longest Drive making this his second time to win this, catching up quick with our other big hitter Mark Smith. An extra special prize went to Dave Guildford for Badgering Beyond the Call of Duty, having flown down from Scotland that morning to play, despite the day being his wedding anniversary and him not having seen his wife that morning. Top Badgering, and a bottle of champagne for his trouble. Nearest the Pin - Phil Tweddle Longest Drive - Richard Maggs Badgering Beyond the Call Of Duty - Dave Guildford The other prizes went to Pat Judd in Third Place, Mike Stone in Second Place (only one not affected by his leaving do's!) and in First Place, John Deely. 3rd Place - Pat Judd
2nd Place - Mike Stone
1st Place - John Deely Congratulations to all of the the winners and thanks again to our sponsors Ruddy Joinery and to all those Badgers who attended, a fantastic day was had by everybody and we shall certainly be returning next year (if they'll have us!).
